During the period from June 18-22, 2024, teaching staff of Astana International University took advanced training courses on the topic: “Introduction to qualitative research methods”, organized by the Graduate School of Education of Nazarbayev University. This course is specifically designed for social science and education educators seeking to deepen their knowledge and skills in conducting qualitative research.

The goal of the course initiatives is to contribute to the systemic transformation of higher education institutions. This transformation involves a transition to a new management model, the development of leadership and professional skills of top managers, as well as managing complex processes of change in the educational sector.

Particular attention was paid to practical classes, which allowed students not only to gain theoretical knowledge, but also to apply it in practice. The course “Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods” became an important stage in the professional development of teaching staff and helped to acquire valuable skills and knowledge necessary for conducting qualitative research.

The course syllabus includes topics such as qualitative research design, literature review, data collection and analysis, as well as the basics of research ethics and its importance for research quality and research integrity. Particular emphasis is placed on practical training for deep immersion in qualitative research methods.

Leading teachers of Astana International University presented a project on the topic: "Academic Writing: Challenges and Perspectives of Low-performing Students at EMI Universities: A Case Study"

The project is dedicated to researching academic writing and the difficulties faced by low-achieving students at English-medium universities. In our study, we tried not only to identify the main problems, but also to propose ways to overcome them.

Colleagues noted the significance of the topic and the high practical value of the data presented. We hope that the results of our research will contribute to the development of educational practices and will help students more successfully adapt to the academic requirements of universities with English as the language of instruction.

Zhanar Berikbayevna Akhayeva, a doctoral student of Higher School of Information Technology and Engineering, successfully defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the educational program "8D06102 – IT management" on the topic " Information system for working with big data of Smart cities ". The defense took place on June 28, 2024 at the Dissertation Council in the field of personnel training "8D061 - Information and Communication Technologies" under the educational program "8D06102 - IT management" of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University.

Solemn event at the AIU: graduation 2024

This week, Astana International University (AIU) entered the atmosphere of celebration and pride – the long-awaited graduation of students, undergraduates and doctoral students takes place. These days are full of joy, excitement and sincere congratulations.

Our university, where the spirit of striving for knowledge and innovation Reigns, welcomes its graduates with honor. Students, their parents and loved ones took part in the solemn ceremony of awarding diplomas to share this important stage in the life of every person.

During the event, the president of the University Serik Aztayevich Irsaliyev made a welcoming speech. He stressed the importance of this event and wished the graduates to boldly go to new heights, apply their knowledge in practice and contribute to the development of Kazakhstan's society. 

"Today you will receive not only a diploma. You will leave Alma mater with new knowledge and competencies. Let this be the foundation for you, the foundation for self – realization and a successful career," the president of AIU stressed.

The expedition takes place in the archaeological complex of Akbaur as part of a scientific project of the Local Authority of the East Kazakhstan region. Professor, Ph.D., Zeynolla Samashev took under his scientific supervision our 6 students of the EP “History” (A. Tursunbaev, A. Orazbay, D. Zhaugashti, A. Abdykhalykova, G. Koishibaeva, B. Saktagan). 3. Samashev began exploring the Akbaur grotto in 1970-1990. This archaeological complex is included in the state list of historical and cultural monuments of republican significance. The excavation period spans the Early Iron and Bronze Age periods. During the excavations, students discovered fragments of pottery, hoes, arrowheads, etc., dating back to the Bronze and Early Iron Ages. find artifacts that were used in everyday life. We hope that our students will improve their archaeological skills, combine knowledge and experience, and become scientists in the future!

Students of the EP “Russian Language and Literature” Dymyd Daria and Zhumabekkyzy Shugyla took part in the International competition “Best Student Research - 2024”, organized by the Society of Science and Creativity at the Kazan Federal University (RF, Kazan) and took 1-st place in the category “Creative scientific solution” for the scientific project “Conceptual field “poverty” in “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish” by A.S. Pushkin." Awarded 1-st degree Diploma; scientific supervisor Abilova Batzhamal Aikenovna.

Students of the EP "Russian Language and Literature" Sarbasova Kamila and Turebay Nurbike took part in the International Competition " “Student Research Work – 2024", organized by the Society of Science and Creativity at the Kazan Federal University (RF, Kazan) and took 2-nd place in the category "Best scientific justification" for the scientific project "Epic parable as a genre of literature." Awarded 2-nd degree Diploma; scientific supervisor Abilova Batzhamal Aikenovna.

In the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, 187 students took the «Successful Career» course from the University of California, Irvine, offered on Coursera. The specialty 6В04102 «Finance» 3rd year 10 students, two doctoral students of specialties 8D04104 «Management» and 8D04101 «Industrial Economics», 1st year students of specialties 6B04102 «Finance», 6B04114 «Management», 6B04117 «Economics», 6B04111 «Marketing», 6B04107 «International Trade and Economics», 6B04108 «Business Administration» completed the course. As part of the course, students studied SWOT analysis using the example of a company, matrix, risk management and development strategy. At the end of the course, each student gave a presentation on the development of the company.

Students of the 1 st and 3 rd years of the educational program “6B01505 Physics” of the Pedagogical Institute completed “online” training on the Coursera platform from May 20 to June 3, 2024.

  The Coursera training program included courses in general physics, engineering disciplines and other fields. The duration of the courses was 2 weeks, with 1-2 hours of video lectures daily, as well as practical/laboratory assignments.

1st year students studied the section: “Mechanics”, and 3rd year students chose the section “Quantum Mechanics”. Based on the results of listening to the video lecture, students were offered practical/laboratory assignments.

In general, physics students showed great interest in studying sections of physics, methods of teaching physics and the level of practical tasks. We became familiar with the fundamental laws and basic concepts of physics and the importance of using calculations in practice.

Based on the results of passing and completing all tasks, students were issued certificates of successful completion.

         Between February 26 and April 28, 2024, students from the Graduate School of Information Technology and Engineering took courses from Coursera. Almost 261 1st-3rd year students, at the expense of the university, successfully studied such courses as “Programming in Python”, “Object Oriented Programming in Java”, “C++ Basics: Selection and Iteration”, “Convolutional Neural Networks”, “Cloud Computing Basics” (Cloud 101)."

        The knowledge gained strengthens the competence of our future IT specialists, guiding them to achieve efficiency and successful career self-determination

Educational-field practice is one of the most important practices in the training of biology teachers, developing deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills of future specialists. Field practice is the final stage of a theoretical and practical course on plant anatomy and morphology, as well as invertebrate zoology. It gives students the opportunity to clearly understand the principle of unity of the environment and organisms, to know plants in a specific ecological situation.

The Educational-field practice of 1st year students took place in the period from 05/20/2024-06/08/2024 in accordance with the academic calendar «The rules of organization and conducting professional practice International University of Astana». The field practice took place within the boundaries of Astana. The students visited the Small Taldykol Lake, the Botanical garden of Astana and explored large city parks and squares.

During the field practice, students have mastered various methods of herbarization of plants, effective methods of drying plants, methods of collecting insects, used classical methods of plant identification, as well as online applications, modern geobotanical methods.

President of Astana International University (AIU) Serik A. Irsaliyev recently held a meeting with the Dean of the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences at Nazarbayev University (NU), Elizabeth Arkhangelsky, along with the Vice Dean for Research, Shazim Memon. During this productive discussion, the parties explored prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation and outlined plans for joint efforts in several key areas.

The parties agreed to actively engage in the organization and conduct of inter-university conferences, seminars, and workshops, which will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among faculty, students, and researchers from both universities.

Specific scientific projects, in which both universities can participate, were also discussed during the meeting. This collaboration will enable the unification of efforts to address current scientific and technological challenges, and enhance the quality of research through an interdisciplinary approach and the use of modern methods and technologies.

The leadership of AIU and the representatives from the NU School of Engineering and Digital Sciences expressed confidence that this cooperation will be a significant step towards the integration of the academic and scientific communities of the two leading young universities in Kazakhstan. The implementation of the planned initiatives will not only elevate the level of educational and scientific achievements but also create a robust foundation for the further development of the region's innovation ecosystem.

A member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Professor Shujaul Mulk Khan delivered lecture course  to AIU students in the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. Professor Khan delivered lectures on biogeography for 2nd and 3rd-year students of the "6B05101 Biology" program, as well as for master's students of the "7M05201 Ecology and Environmental Management" program at the School of Natural Sciences.

The course covered topics such as the distribution of biological species across different regions of the Earth, the impact of climatic and geographical factors on biodiversity, and modern research methods in biogeography. Professor Khan willingly shared the latest scientific advancements and his own research, which undoubtedly deepened the students' knowledge and stimulated their interest in scientific research.

The International educational Corporation "Kazakh Head Architectural and Construction Academy" annually holds a Republican competition among the final qualifying works of students and undergraduates who have completed their studies in the specialty "Design".

On April 1, 2024, according to the results of the Republican on-line review-competition of graduation papers among universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, graduate of the Graduate School of Art and Design in the specialty 7M02101 – Design Taisyuganova Malika took the honorable 1st place. The topic of the master's project is "Optical illusions as a shaping tool in the interior design of public spaces", supervisor – Candidate of Architecture, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Art and Design Kiseleva Tatyana Alexandrovna.

Further, Maliki's master's thesis was sent to participate in the XI International Festival of Architectural, Construction and Design Schools of Eurasia, specializing in Design. The international jury of this festival is represented by reputable scientists P. Posocco (PhD, Italy), V. Ketz (PhD, Italy), Kornilova A. A. (Doctor of Architecture, Professor, RK), Karabaev G. A. (PhD, Professor of RK), Surova E. M. (PhD, Professor, RF) , etc .

The jury reviewed 54 competitive works (46 diploma projects and 8 master's theses of scientific and pedagogical direction) from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan. In the Master's Degree nomination, Malika Taisyuganova's dissertation was also recognized as the best and awarded a diploma of the first degree.
