On April 15, 2024, students of the Higher School of Law of Astana International University, together with senior lecturer Seilkhanov Zh.D., attended an open court session of the Specialized Criminal Court of Astana City. Currently, students are studying the topic of criminal offenses against public health and morality, on the subject of Criminal Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where a court hearing was held on a criminal case against citizen who named “N” accused under Article 296 h. 2 “Illegal handling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their analogues without the purpose of sale” and under Article 297 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Illegal manufacture, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of sale, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their analogues."
Within the framework of these court sessions, students got acquainted with the procedure for holding a court session: opening of the meeting; explanation by the court to the parties of their procedural rights; submission of petitions by the parties; statement by the prosecutor on the need to elect (extend) a preventive measure in the form of detention to the suspect (accused), speech by a lawyer, as well as other participants. In addition, the students saw the role that professional ethics plays in the work of lawyers.
